A street in Paris near Jardin Luxembourg - Summer 1939
DANIEL has arrived on the Left Bank. He is spellbound by the beauty of Paris, but is a bit lost. By chance he meets MANON, a charming young woman who (as we later learn) is from a prominent Jewish family; and CLARISSE, MANON'S childhood friend. DANIEL is looking for Jardin Luxembourg. They guide him to the gardens and chat along the way. DANIIEL and MANON instantly like each other. They agree to meet again. MANON does not tell her parents.
